Back To School
Summer Recap: What a great summer we had here at Stars. The children really enjoyed all the wonderful summer activities we had going on. Water play was without a doubt there favorite thing to do. The children had little wading pools, water play tables, squirt bottles and sprinklers. The children also really enjoyed all the in house field trips that came to our school. The fireman did a great job demonstrating what they would look like with all their gear on. It was so exciting to see how high the fire trucks ladder would go up in the sky. All the children also had a great time when the police officers came. Each child was able to sit in the police car and talk to the officers about safety. Science week was awesome. We had many different science experiments going on; Bubble Mania has always been the children’s favorite summer in house field trip. The children learned all about different shapes and sized bubbles and some of the children had the opportunity to be inside a giant bubble.
September Recap: This month was a huge month for a fresh start! Our area of focus was “All About Me” and we learned so much about each other and ourselves! Children brought in pictures of their families and enjoyed sharing with us the people they love the most! As we come into fall, we looked at apples, leaves, the change in the weather, and the color red! We sang songs about how wonderful we all are, our 5 senses, songs about the days of the week and Spanish! We introduced and practiced the Montessori preliminary lessons; rolling a rug, pushing in our chair, cleaning up our work before taking another out, dressing frames, spooning and dry pouring, just to name a few. Our afternoon enrichment program started and we kicked it off with music and movement! Patty Shukla and Frank Leto are the top picks for this group! I’m excited to continue to build on the activities for my little kiddos!
October Recap: October is always such a fun and exciting month for our kiddos! It’s the first month to start off end of the year holidays and celebrations and the beginning of another season change! From learning about spiders, bats and pumpkins to what colors make orange, ASL for “orange,” and celebrating friend’s birthdays! The kiddos were extremely fascinated when we cut open our pumpkin to reveal the seeds we’ve been talking about with our Life Cycle of a Pumpkin lesson. I think eating the seeds was their favorite part! We look forward to adding onto our fall theme in our upcoming month!
November Recap: Wow! How quickly our year is coming to an end! November was a fun month to explore our first continent of the year, North America! We explored the culture of North America; how they live, eat, their homes, and how they go to school from different parts of our beautiful country. We are re-introducing our ” Continent Song,” it is a catchy song that is sure to get stuck in your head as the children memorize it. Our Harvest Feast was a huge success, and even though lots of children were gone on vacation, it was a special time, that we were able to spend with our kiddos and their families that attended. November was a time to teach our children the importance of giving and sharing and family! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
December Recap: Can you believe 2017 is already just about over!? With so much to celebrate, our month has been full of holiday cheer! We learned about the continent of Antarctica and the different animals and people that live there. We looked at Eskimos and their houses and how they fished and gather food. Holidays around the world is always a wonderful new experience and important focus of this month! And last, our amazing holiday concert to close out our year before winter break!
Thank you to all our awesome parents for a fabulous 2017!
Happy Holidays and New Year!
January Recap: WOW! Another year in the books, and what a fun filled holiday season we had! I was so glad to see everyone for our holiday performance and potluck. January has been a good month of reflection for our kiddos! We had many holiday time discussions, family and friend excitement, and vacation adventure stories. I thought, since it being the beginning of the year and after our long break, we would start back with going over our Montessori preliminary exercises as a refresher. Rug rolling and unrolling, pushing in chairs, carrying trays, etc. I introduced our new continent of South America. From discovering Rio and the rain forest, to exotic animals and Carnival, we have been all over exploring and meeting new friends and how they live. We are in store for some exciting changes coming soon! Welcome back everyone!
February Recap: Another month has come and gone! Enjoying the sporadic cooler weather and trying to keep up with sanitizing, nose cleaning and hand washing. We had a tough month with this awful flu season, but it gave us an even bigger opportunity to brush up on our care of one’s self and sneeze and cough control! We got to travel to Asia and explore the big pandas and other animals and their sounds and habitats. Pictures of the Great Wall of China and Chinese New Year celebrations, cherry blossomed trees and reading about different children’s cultures from our “Children Just Like Me” book. We really enjoyed our Valentine’s card exchange and having discussions about who we love and why love is such an important feeling!
March Recap: March madness! We had so much fun exploring Africa and the color green this month! Color mixing, green pancake making for St. Patrick’s Day and animals and culture of the green continent. We looked at videos of traditional Irish dancing and listened to the sounds of different wild animals. We are ready to enjoy the warm weather, blossoming flowers and all the little critters that spring brings!
April Recap: Welcome Spring! We had such a transition this month! Our new classroom environment is awesome, and the kiddos love it so much! We continued our learnings on Australia and our intro to plants and how important it is to care of living things! We got to try some new things like kombucha and jackfruit, and to our surprise, the children loved both! Biodegradable bird feeders, germinating our own seeds and creating aboriginal rocks… we’re just getting started. Spring time brings amazing outdoor opportunities!
May Recap: This month we learned about the beauty in culture, people and animals of South America. We focused on toucans, jaguars and the anaconda with books, videos and songs. Our kiddos really enjoyed the fun dynamics of the Amazon rainforest and the Amazon river and the circle of life between the plants and animals!
The kiddos had so much fun learning and exploring with our real-life lesson of the Life Cycle of a Butterfly! We got to see firsthand the change that happens to a caterpillar. Watching ” The Very Hungry Caterpillar” showed us how much a caterpillar needs to eat to prepare its body before it picks the perfect settling spot to build its “home” (chrysalis). We are still awaiting the transformation!
Mother’s Day tea was a huge success! Thank you so much to all the mommies that were able to make it. You are all so wonderful and we really appreciate everything you do. I also want to say THANK YOU for our amazing Teacher’s Appreciation Week gifts! We are beyond grateful for all the gratitude shown to us.
Our Montessori lessons entailed
- The Life Cycle of a Butterfly
- Parts of a Tree
- Care of a Book
- fruit cutting
Our special project we worked on this month was our Mother’s Day handprints. The kiddos attempted to paint their own hands which turned out to be a great experience for them. Learning how to hold a paintbrush and utilize it on themselves. The feel, the coordination, the result was real enlightening for them and gave them a big smile and a sense of self.
June Recap: June is always a special time of year, so many events were happening and lots of things to celebrate! Our kiddos loved learning about different ways people use to transport themselves around the earth. From books and educational videos of how to build airplanes and cars to songs about submarines, buses and bicycles. The enjoyed and soaked up every bit of information. As I continue to build the outside classroom, I have incorporated some water work in our outside patio and will continue to add as our summer goes on. We also discussed about our wonderful golden state. Our state bird, flower and flag were our key focus.
