Back To School
Summer Recap: It was a fun summer at Stars Montessori Academy. We had three fun packed months with activities, music, and art. On sunny days we were able to enjoy the weather by dipping in the pool, it was lots of fun! In the month of June we learned about the Solar System. We had the children paint rocket ships with their feet and made them use their hands to make an Earth painting. Our color of the month was blue and we did lots of projects involving that color. In the month of July we focused on sea animals and a set of colors to celebrate our Independence Day, “Red, white, & blue”. We created flag art and sang songs involving sea animals like “Tiny Turtle”. In the month of August the children learned about the colors black and oranges. They learned their shapes and sang songs like “The Wheels on the Bus”.
September Recap: WELCOME BACK! This September has been all about coming back to school and getting to know each other with pictures and sing a longs. I am truly humble to see new and old faces from your children in Stars Montessori. This month we focused on welcoming back to school with apple tree pictures, recognition of the children faces and mixing paint with various colors. It was a joy seeing some of the older infants trying to hold the paint brush as well the smaller babies mixing paint while doing the caterpillars and their faces. So excited to see to see parents come and stop by and see your child’s art work and hear about all of our fun we have with our friends in class.
October News: During the month of October our infants learned all about fall and harvest. They enjoyed making candy corn, ghost feet, and pumpkin jack-o-lantern’s. All using their hand and feet as a base of their artwork. Music and movement this month was a lot of fun. We did activities and song that practice clapping, open shut them, naming parts of the body, and finger play’s. The children’s favorite activity this month was mixing paint colors as they finger painted on the table. We are all looking forward to our Halloween Parade on October 31 st from 9:30 to 10:30. All parents are welcome.
November Recap: This month was a wonderful month for our babies, we introduced the four Montessori methods, with some modifications of course. The older ones practiced some practical life, and everyone else were able to join in for music, circle time, and art time. We also practiced our sign language, especially “more” and “eat”. In our creation art, they made corn out of their hands and feet, they also did leaf painting with fall colors and the children created turkey hands. We had the opportunity to trace their bodies to measure how they grow. Our parent teacher conference went very smoothly, we are so proud of the children’s progress. We also had a great Harvest Feast, thank you for the parents who were able to attend.
December Recap: December has been all about celebrating the holidays with a wonderful curriculum, that shows the seasons as well as the holidays. For example, for practical life the focus is feeling and touching puzzles of different shapes and sizes getting familiar with shapes. We mostly focused on holiday shapes; pine trees, candy canes, bells, etc. In circle time we reviewed what holidays are about by practicing our colors; white for snowmen, red for Santa, and brown for reindeers. We also included some science into our curriculum. The children loved touching cubes, they liked the sensation of coldness through their fingers. Some of our friends understood the cold touch as they reacted by putting their fingers in their mouths or got scared to touch ice. Finally, for our fun holiday activity projects we created hand and foot Santa.
January Recap: We are happy to have everyone back from their winter break. With our return, we would like to welcome our new friends in the baby room, Jordyn and Alex, who are 4 months and 8 months old respectively. We are excited and happy to make them part of our Stars family. With the new year we came back to a new classroom, we got new floors and a fresh paint job, creating more crawling space for the babies to explore while they develop. For art we created polar bear hands prints as well as bird handprints. There’s much to learn this year and we look forward hearing from our parents with any question or comments regarding your babies.
February Recap: This month was so much fun! We were able to teach the children how to respect and love their smaller friends. We practiced all the sign words we’ve taught them and showed them the signs for love and family. Many of our friends dressed up for Valentine’s Day, the older friends had lots of fun creating a friendship snack with cheerios and puffs. We also had lots of fun learning about Chinese New Year’s, one of our friends came in dressed in their wonderful attire. We hope March will provide us with the same amount of fun!
April Recap: Lots of changes happened in April for our little baby class. We finally moved into our new classroom and even thought it’s been an adjustment we’ve all liked being closer to our new playground area. We also have been getting accustomed to our new schedules and having fun playing with our older friends in the walker classroom. Since we’ve settled in, we’ve been practicing our sign language for milk and water along with please and thank you. The babies love the songs Five Green and Speckled Frogs and I have a Tiny Turtle. Once Again, thank you all for the support while the changes happened, we will keep striving to create engaging activities for our infants.
May Recap: May was a very fun month for our little ones, since we share a lot of time with our older friends in the walking infants we were able to see the caterpillars turn into butterflies. The babies might not be old enough to remember but they were very happy when they saw the butterflies flapping their wings. We create lots of art work from birds to butterflies. As always, we practice our sign language with our babies, from please to thank you’s. We also worked very hard to create a fun present for Mother’s day, we appreciated everyone who took time out of their schedule to join us. Since the weather is getting warmer please remember to bring in appropriate clothes for us to wear, we love going outside!
June Recap: This month we learned about transportation; buses, airplanes, trucks and cars. Our focus for the past few weeks of June was learning about colors and shapes of different types of automobiles.
Our little infants tend to learn everything by repetition. When we were outside for play time we listened out for the firetrucks, airplanes and car noises. As for a special project we made foot prints for dads. We appreciated the dads that were able to make it to our father celebration.
Summer News: For the months of July and August it is all about summer, we will be making fun art activities and enjoying our summer program. If you apply sunblock to your child at home, please bring some in for our classroom. Even though we have shade in our backyard we will still reapply sunblock before going outside in the afternoon. Please make sure the bring sunscreen with your child’s name and expiration date on the bottle.
For water play days, please bring in your child dress in their swim suits, a towel and water shoes if they are practicing walking. Please let us know if you would like your child to opt out of the water days.
